2014-2015 Season

Meet the Clowns

The 39 Steps features a cast of four playing a nearly uncountable number of characters. The bulk of those characters are portrayed by two “clowns.” And by clowns, we mean the extraordinarily talented actors and wonderful humans Sal Cacciato and Andy Paterson.

This show is the Triad Stage debut for each of them, and we’re very happy to have gotten to know them. This awesome duo brings so much energy and hilarity to every performance.  You should get to know them, too:

Sal Cacciato (Clown 1)

Thoughts on the Play:

“The main thing I love about The 39 Steps is the task of transformation the actors face when jumping from character to character.  Allowing yourself to be as malleable as warm clay is a great challenge for the actor, and great fun for the audience to watch.”

Favorite Moment:

“One of my favorite parts of this play is watching the journey of a love affair blossom from two characters who more or less despise one another at the beginning. The actors playing the roles have really created  a relationship that is quite sweet.”

On Being in North Carolina:

“Greensboro is a great historic town full of life, culture and energy.”

Fun Fact:

“One fun thing to know about me is that  I am a sucker for a good plate of pasta!”

Andy Paterson (Clown 2)

Thoughts on the Play:

“I love the puzzle that this thing is, and how it would be impossible to put together and make fly every night without my amazing cast-mates. I really love the moment after curtain call behind that closed curtain after we’ve just landed.  So much magic swirling about and such buzz on the other side of that curtain.”

Favorite Character:

“My wife Tina Stafford (currently on the ONCE the musical first national tour) says she likes Willy McGarrigle best of all.”

On Being in North Carolina:

“Favorite thing so far — Saxapahaw General Store (a gas station that is also a 5 star restaurant) and the kayaking that we four are planning to do on the Haw River on our day off.”

Fun Fact:

“I love birds, and I get to do the “Birds” moment in the show. Hee hee!”
